Painting of the Week: The Forerunners of Christ with Saints and Martyrs

The Forerunners of Christ with Saints and Martyrs, along with four other panels, formed the predella (or lower section) of the high altarpiece of San Domenico at Fiesole, near Florence.

This was the church of Fra Angelico’s own Dominican friary.

The three rows represent the various precursors of Christ—saints and martyrs.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is painting-2.png
