  • I bought Verbum 8 about a month ago and spent some good money on the Catholic Gold package… it would have been nice for VERBUM to announce this upgrade some time before… i could have waited and bought the new thing… but this is the way things go with bussiness…

  • Am now a retired Catholic priest. When I was active giving daily homilies for both of my masses: ordinary and extraordinary, I used Verbum in my homilies, teachings, and spiritual directions. I acted back and forth: between the old and new theologies. But I would still be happy if Verbum would also develop a set of homilies for extraordinary forms, as suggested by David. Perhaps, I will upgrade my Verbum 8 to 9. Verbum has been a big help to me during my active years in the priestly ministry.

    • Fr. Lawrence,

I’m so glad Verbum has been a help for you in your ministry! We’ll keep working to bring Extraordinary Form resources to Verbum.

  • Today I upgraded to V9 and am excited most about the homily manager! Currenty downloading as I type

    • Excellent! And we have brand new training videos from Fr. Devin and Fr. Andrew that will be posting soon.

  • Verbum 9 is absolutely wonderful in its enhanced features. However, the quite incredible Homily Manager is unjustifiably hobbled by Verbum’s neglect by omission of developing and providing to the Catholic Lectionary the 1962 Missale Romanum. Clergy who use Verbum and celebrate the Extraordinary Form are unable to fully benefit from the HM because neither the 1962 Missale Romanum or Breviarium Romanum can be used to import, plan, or reference for Homily or instruction.

In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI confirmed that the Extraordinary Form has never been abrogated and is, as is the Novus Ordo, the Ordinary Form, of the Roman Rite. Therefore, it is part of the Sacred Liturgy, always has been, always will be and should be in the Catholic Lectionary. Dignum et iustum est.

This is not an option. It is a moral obligation, given Verbum’s Mission.

For over thirteen years, Prelate, Priest, Religious, and Laity worldwide, throughout Holy Mother Church have discovered and have been taken with holy reverence and awe by the Extraordinary Form. CELEBRATION AND WORSHIP IN THE EXTRAORDINARY FORM IS EXPONETIALLY EXPLODING, as is Liturgical and Theological study of it. Devotees of the Extraordinary Form are not fringe, they are mainstream as attested to by prominent Clergy and Laity. Their growth is particularly prominent and fecund in the United States. Look it up, anywhere; google, Facebook, Diocesan websites, Prelates’ blogs, news sources, organizations.

But Verbum has not provided the 1962 Missale Romanum or Breviarium Romanum (or the Liturgy of the Hours) to its customers, or even alluded to any plans for its provision.

This is a great neglect of omission to both the faithful and also to those who particularly study Liturgy.

Given the Ministerial nature of Verbum’s Mission, it must be asked what is Verbum’s strategy in this regard and what is the timeline for providing to Verbum and Logos Customers 1962 Missale Romanum and Breviarium Romanum?

Apostolic Letter Summorum Pontificum – Pope Benedict XVI (June 7, 2007)
This is the document by which Pope Benedict XVI allowed for more widespread use of the 1962 Missal. Each priest may now celebrate the Extraordinary Form without permission from the bishop.

Letter to the Bishops Accompanying Summorum Pontificum – Pope Benedict XVI (June 7, 2007)
Pope Benedict XVI sent the letter to the bishops of the world to explain his reasoning for allowing more widespread use of the 1962 Missal. He also coins the terms Ordinary Form for the Missal issued by St. Paul VI first in 1970 and Extraordinary Form for the Missal last issued by St. John XXIII in 1962.

Instruction Universae Ecclesiae – Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei (April 30, 2011)
After three years of consultation, the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei issued the follow-up to Summorum Pontificum to clarify a number of points regarding the use of the Extraordinary Form. It states that by issuing Summorum Pontificum, Pope Benedict XVI wished to promote reconciliation at the heart of the Church.
